Generic Norvasc (Amlodipine) is a RX tab for hypertension manufactured by Pfizer. There are several tablets that treat this disease . But only Generic Norvasc is sold in more than 80 countries and has been tested in more than 700 clinical studies.
Generic Norvasc can control high blood pressure for 24 hours and is also used to treat chest pain. It controls blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and let blood to flow more freely inside them. The most common side effects in clinical trials were dizziness and headache. Rare side effects include blood disorders, gynecomastiam, impotence, depression, insomnia, tachycardia, erratic behavior, hepatitis, jaundice, hyperglycemia and tremors.
Norvasc is considered a calcium channel blocker and is also indicated for the treatment of Coronary Artery disease such as Chronic Stable Angina, Vasospastic Angina and Angiographically Documented Coronary Artery disease. The common function of these drugs is to expand the blood vessels relaxing them.
Amlodipine dosing varies from 5 mg to 10 mg per day and can be taken with or without food.
Pfizer has lost full patent in 2007 therefore a lot of generic versions are now represented on the market. Norvasc is also available with Lipitor to treat hypertension and high cholesterol in the prescription treatment Caduet.
